Letters for April 6: Trump’s negativity is to distract you from the fact he’s not qualified to lead

Donald Trump

Although he had no prior experience in public service, former President Donald Trump, despite losing the popular vote by almost 3 million votes, won the presidency in 2016.

Here’s an account which might help, during the current campaign, to give a feeling for how unserious Trump’s “political” rallies now are: “Since bursting onto the presidential scene in 2015, Trump has transformed the American public’s conception of a political rally, taking the stage after hours of eardrum-shattering decibels of a self-curated playlist … ,” according to a Washington Post article by Ashley Parker, Marianne LeVine and Ross Godwin. He then screams out his overheated, crowd-pleasing plots for revenge and recrimination, such as his impulse to “‘cast out the communists, Marxists and fascists,’ and to ‘throw off the sick political class that hates our country,’” according to the article.

It’s astonishing that he can be so blind to his own hypocrisy. He himself is a thoroughgoing fascist, as can readily be seen from his embrace of the likes of Hungary’s Viktor Orban and Russia’s Vladimir Putin, and, especially, from the likeliness that he will, according to an Atlantic article by McKay Coppins, “prioritize obedience over credentials.”

Trump does not believe in our democratic tradition, the Constitution, national secrecy or climate change.

Trump stands exposed as a dilettante imposter. He lacks the needed background to successfully lead, and then covers by spewing out entertaining invective, thereby attacking the America the rest of us love.

NBC News

Re “NBC News cuts ties with ex-chair of RNC after staff firestorm” (March 27): NBC News hires a Republican, Ronna McDaniel, former Republican National Committee chair, as a contributor to get input from a conservative on its news shows. After outrage from NBC/MSNBC on-air people, many, if not all, with Democratic ties, NBC caved and fired McDaniel not long after.

Along with MSNBC’s censoring of President Donald Trump’s remarks on numerous occasions, this only shows that NBC/MSNBC is not interested in fair and balanced programming. Instead it has shown that it is not a journalist organization, but is a fully fledged political hate propaganda operation for President Joe Biden and the Democrats.

And no, if you say Fox News is the same for Republicans, you obviously do not watch Fox, just its competitors.

No way

It has been brought to America’s attention that former President Donald Trump is selling a book he calls a “Bible.” He is trying to reinvent the wheel and make a profit.

To him I say, “no thanks.”

I will continue to read the King James Version, the New International Version, the New Living Translation, The Message Bible, the English Standard Version and the Amplified Bible. I received my first Bible more than 60 years ago free of charge.

Easter message

Re “B.C. by Mastroianni & Hart” (Comics, March 29): I was awed by the profound Good Friday message without words in B.C. on the comics page. “Then Jesus shouted out again, and he released his spirit. At that moment the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.” — Matthew 27:50-51. That picture embodies the Easter story of God making a way through Jesus’ life, death and resurrection for us to have personal access to God and eternal life.

Doctors

Re “Health care” (Your Views, March 28): To add to the letter writer’s great response to robotic answers when trying to reach a doctor, I would like to offer my favorite: If this is a medical emergency, please call us back in five to 10 business days.

Tom Somma, Virginia Beach
